Librarian Review of Character Education
These titles in the Character Education series feature character traits for young children that will help them understand, appreciate, and apply these important characteristics. Each book defines the title trait, gives reasons about why it is important, and offers simple examples of situations of children using the trait. For example, I Am Generous provides an example of a girl who donates her hair to help kids who are sick or a girl who shares her time to help her parents with a chore. I Am Humble helps remind children that it is ok to be proud of your accomplishments, but that you must also be respectful. I Am Resourceful teaches the reader that when you try to do things on your own, sometimes you can find your own answers. In the book I Am Tolerant, it highlights the importance of being kind to others who are different from yourself. The bright visuals and photos will appeal to young children as they turn the pages and apply the examples to their own lives. The simple narrative, short sentences, bolded words, and glossary will aid early readers as they navigate the text. The series would be an excellent source for teaching about character building, but would also be a perfect conversation piece for any child learning about how to treat others and the world around them.
